Welcome to the blog
I’m Arlie!
And this is my first blog post.
After 8 years of post-secondary education, I find myself about to launch my career in naturopathic medicine (I’m not a licensed ND yet, but will be soon!). And with 8 years of learning about biochemistry, psychology, and naturopathic medicine knocking around inside my head, plus many years of lived experience as a patient and as a queer woman, I have a lot of thoughts on a lot of things.
So I’m starting a blog.
Most of my thoughts centre around the role of mindset, relationships, society, and environment on our health.
I’ve tried to talk about these topics on Instagram, and I always get frustrated because these issues are way too nuanced to shove into a social media post. I love being able to get my message out on Instagram, but everything shared there has to be simplified. The way that being queer changes my relationship to healthcare is not simple. The way racism impacts health is not simple. Our society’s relationship to food is not simple, and neither is the science behind nutrition. And I think we owe it to ourselves to explore these issues in a nuanced way.
But what’s the point of exploring these issues if we can’t apply them to our lives? That’s why I’ll always share what I’ve concluded and how I use that philosophy with myself or with my clients, so you’ll come away with a fresh mindset and concrete tips.
What To Expect
I plan to post at least once a month, so check back every couple weeks, or just get on my mailing list (at the bottom of this page) and I’ll update you once a month (plus you’ll get exclusive seasonal tips and tricks).
This blog is for you if you:
Want to take care of your health but are skeptical of the extreme or simplistic diet and exercise tips on the internet
Feel uncomfortable with your doctor and want to be able to advocate for yourself
Want to learn more about your body and how to take care of it
My mission is to create a community of folks who can support each other, learn from each other, and empower each other to take care of ourselves and each other. So join the community! Comment your thoughts and experiences, email me if you have a lot to say, and follow me on Instagram or Facebook if you want to get to know me better! You can also learn a little more about me on the About Arlie page.
Welcome to the blog!
p.s. I will be discussing topics that have direct impacts on many of our lives. I always work hard to write in the most inclusive way possible. However, I acknowledge that I have a lot of privilege, including white, thin, and cisgender privilege. If I ever write something that is in conflict with your lived experience, or makes you feel invalidated or disrespected, I would be very grateful if you would correct me, call me in, or express your disagreement. I am committed to doing the best I can by my community and making things right when I’ve made a mistake.
